About Me

Background

I am originally from Israel, where I had a very successful and unique flute shop by the name of Flute House. Flute House was the Israeli center for all of the country's flautists, professionals, teachers and students.
I was the Israeli dealer for Powell, Muramatsu, Miyazawa, Altus, Armstrong, Emerson, Dean, Hammig and Trevor J. James.

I relocated to the USA in 2001, to the Boston area. Since my relocation I have been consulting for Powell Flutes, acting as a Senior Manager, product manager and tester. At Powell, I was responsible for training flute makers, was in charge of quality, and was the Signature Flute product manager.

Service

I work on Boehm concert flutes, piccolos and alto flutes, metal or wood. I do not work on Baroque flutes, ethnic instrument or recorders. I am a perfectionist and I cannot rest until I am absolutely satisfied with the work, which I never really am. I provide very high level of customer service and am eager to ensure satisfaction.
I work mainly on professional flutes/piccolos, where the quality of the work really counts. With high quality flutes, I know that I can do what I do best and that it would be appreciated. However, I do not turn down student flutes which may also benefit greatly from high quality work.
I am Straubinger Pad certified, trained by David Straubinger himself in 1996.

Practices

In order to ensure perfection, I work on one instrument at a time. No distractions. This also allows for a fast turnaround. An overhaul job is usually completed within 3-4 days. The flute is then played for about and hour and put aside for 2 days to allow the new pads to stabilize. I play-test all flutes before they are packed to be shipped.

Experience

I started practicing wind instrument repair in 1988 while still teaching flute and performing as a professional flutist. In 1990 I became a full time repairman and within months developed a reputation among professionals for outstanding flute repairs. Being overwhelmed with flute repair jobs from professionals and teachers (the entire Israel Philharmonic Orchestra flute section had me overhaul their instruments in the first year), I stopped taking in any wood instruments other than flutes, with the exception of oboe work for the Israel Philharmonic, the Jerusalem Symphony and other professional orchestras in Israel.
Since 1992 I work exclusively on flutes and piccolos.
In the early years of the current millennium, I consulted for Powell Flutes as a senior manager, was the Signature Flute product manager, a tester for all models and in charge of the finishing department and quality. I designed a training plan for finishers and conducted the training myself. I also trained body makers and stringers.
In 2005 I left Powell to focus on freelance flute repair, while still doing work for Powell as a contractor.
